Hunger Context

Hunger remains a critical global issue, with millions still unable to access the nutrition needed for survival and development. Despite efforts to address food insecurity, it continues to worsen due to conflict, climate change, and economic crises. Stop Hunger plays a vital role in contributing to confronting these challenges with partner NGOs, ensuring that people gain the resources and skills necessary to create sustainable futures.

The Reality

2025 will be a year of unrelenting crises:

  • 733 million people are facing hunger of which 343 million are facing acute hunger
  • 84.2 million more women than men are food insecure in the world
  • 1 child dies every 10 seconds from malnutrition

The Food Paradox

At the same time, an astonishing one-third of all food produced is wasted, which adds to the paradox of global hunger. These figures reveal the magnitude of the crisis and underscore the urgent need for systemic change.

The Root Cause

Hunger is driven by complex factors beyond food scarcity:

  • Conflict disrupts food production, supply chains, and livelihoods.

  • Climate change intensifies the crisis with extreme weather events that destroy crops and displace families.

  • Inequality – both economic and social – prevents access to essential resources and opportunities.

Addressing these root causes is critical to reversing the hunger crisis and creating lasting solutions.
