Living Soils works directly with women farmers in Mondoukou

Regenerating Soil, Strengthening Food Security

In Mondoukou Canal, Ivory Coast, Stop Hunger is supporting Living Soils through the Mondouchamp project, a 12-month initiative launched in March 2026. The project aims to improve food security by helping women farmers restore soil fertility through natural, locally produced inputs, while creating new income opportunities for the community.

Supporting women farmers

Living Soils works directly with women farmers in Mondoukou, offering practical training and individual support on their own plots. During the first six months, 17 women farmers received individual follow-up, 24 participants joined a fertilizer training, and 9 women visited the Living Soils farm to learn more about the black soldier fly and its role in producing natural fertilizer.

Building local resilience

One of the next steps will be the launch of a decentralized black soldier fly farm in Mondoukou. This will help produce frass, a natural fertilizer that can regenerate agricultural soils while reducing dependence on costly external inputs.

From September, the project will also expand to involve households and the wider community, alongside a nutrition component co-developed with beneficiaries and supported by Sodexo employees through skills-based volunteering.

By connecting soil regeneration, women’s empowerment and local economic development, Mondouchamp is helping build stronger, more resilient food systems in Ivory Coast.
